tulOu 土楼

What would a house for an entire family - parents, grand-parents, children, cousins, uncles, brothers ... - would look like?
Located mostly in the region of Fujian, China, many of these multi-storey adobe structures were built in order to create protected shelter for a community.
Nowadays, these surreal living structures are still present in many villages across the region and face a new surreal moment: the advent of modernity.
This project was part of a journey around the area to explore the real nature of some of these World Heritage Unesco protected buildings.
